OUR SCHOOL POWHIRI
Yesterday morning, we had a calm whole school Powhiri. A powhiri is when you welcome someone to a very special place. Our Powhiri was for some of the new people coming into our school, because some of them had just left their old school and started here at CPS for the first time.
Before the incredible Powhiri had started, Matua Tuiono told the whole school that were inside the hall to get up and have a little singing practice to make sure we sounded good. After our remarkable singing practice the one and only Matua Tuiono said we may now start the Powhiri.
After our surprising singing, Matua Tuiono said to Ma Cynthia to start calling Ngamamaerua from the end of the path at Mrs Dawson's office. They started to do the Karanga. A Karanga is when your inside and you call someone from outside. Ma Cynthia welcomed Ngamamaerua and the new kids plus Matua Dereck into the hall.
Afterwards, all the new students sat down. Matua Tuiono stood upt o say welcome and everything else in Maori. Then he got Rawiri to come up and say the opening prayer. Next, Mrs Dawson got up and said a welcoming speech and she said how our school is a very nice school.
Later on, Matua Dereck stood up and said a very fast speech in Maori. It was thanking everyone for welcoming them to our marvellous school. Later we all sang a very fast and very charming waiata and the new people went up to the staffroom and had a very huge feed and a cup of fresh water. It wasnt fair because last year we didnt have a feed like that.
Well that was what had happened yesterday morning. I felt very gloomy that we didnt have a feed but I felt pleased that we have more new poeple in our school.

Elisiva, this is a sensational recount! I really liked the way you structured your story through the use of paragraphs - and your punctuation was perfect! Keep up the great work. :)
